Spellman Baked Goods

When I was young, if somebody told me that one day people would make me cakes or cupcakes fashioned after my own book jacket, I’d suggest they needed a cup of coffee.

Fortunately coffee and cake go well together.

Thanks to all the folks who helped celebrate the release of my second book. The tour was great fun, but so is sleep.

Lisa’s tour kicks off on Tuesday (March 11) at A Great Good Place for Books in Oakland. If you’re in Northern California, definitely don’t miss this one. They put on a great event (wine and all–it’s a lot like a party). I’ve just added new dates and times to Lisa’s Tour Dates page (new events in Colorado, Southern California, Northern California, Oregon, and Washington), and added a new page with her upcoming Radio Interviews.

Don’t forget that Curse of the Spellmans is officially released on March 11th (some bookstores are selling it already, so check your local shops, or you can buy it online from lots of places).

2008 Dilys Award Nominee

THE SPELLMAN FILES has been nominated for the Dilys Award! This award is given by the Independent Mystery Booksellers Association (IMBA) each year for the book they enjoyed selling the most.

The Dilys Award has been given annually since 1993 by the IMBA to the mystery titles of the year which the member booksellers have most enjoyed selling. The Dilys Award is named in honor of Dilys Winn, the founder of the first specialty bookseller of mystery books in the United States. Murder Ink, the store founded by Ms. Winn, closed in 2006. This unfortunate landmark is hopefully not a reflection on independent bookselling everywhere, but in a tough climate, we encourage everyone to shop independent! Previous winners of the Dilys Award include Louise Penny, Val McDermid, Robert Crais, Carl Hiassen, Dennis Lehane, Julia Spencer-Fleming, Jasper Fforde and Colin Cotterill.

The Spellman Files named 2008 Alex Award Winner

THE SPELLMAN FILES is one of ten recipients of the 2008 Alex Awards. This award is given to ten authors whose books, while written for adults, have specific teen appeal. Lisa will be attending the awards ceremony in June at the American Library Association’s annual meeting. Congratulations!

Here’s a bit more about the award:

The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), the fastest-growing division of the American Library Association, named the recipients of the 2008 Alex Awards. . . . The awards, sponsored by Booklist, were announced at the 2008 ALA Midwinter Meeting.

The Alex Awards were created to recognize that many teens enjoy and often prefer books written for adults, and to assist librarians in recommending adult books that appeal to teens. The award is named in honor of the late Margaret Alexander Edwards, fondly called "Alex" by her closest friends, a young adult specialist at the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore. She used adult books extensively with young adults to broaden their experience and enrich their understanding of themselves and their world.
